The countdown begins...
Only a week and a half until training is over!!!! Living with 8 other people is really started to get to me. The girls and I escaped to Irbid for the day, thank God.. Mainly because we needed more supplies for our Practicum, but also because I wanted to sit at a cafe and get a milkshake. Which was very zaki.
Our Practicum at the Girls Center was going so well! We had two days, Wednesday and yesterday, where over 30 girls showed up, and our activities ran smoothly. The first day we showed the girls how to make friendship bracelets and had them paint picture frames. We then took pictures of them, developed the film, and gave them the framed pics. They seemed to love it. The second day we made prayer beads. They are like rosaries, but Muslim. We had them make beads from paper, which was very successful. They really enjoyed it. There were 35 girls and only 8 glue sticks, and they actually shared the glue sticks perfectly. It was so impressive. Afterwards, we taught them the hokey pokey, and they taught us the Arabic hokey pokey. Truly a cross-cultural exchange. I'll get the pics from Kim and post them on here later.
Today, we had english and exercise planned for the older girls, but not one person showed up. Lana and Saleh, two of the staff members from Irbid, came to watch our activity, so it was incredibly embarrassing when no one showed, and we all ended up dancing to Abba. Abba makes everything better.
On Wednesday the J9s get to hit up Amman for a night of fun, which is definitely something to look forward to. I really can't wait. I've also booked my tickets for Cairo in December, which is awesome.
Just heard 50 Cent played at the internet cafe....if only they knew what the lyrics meant...
My heart goes out to New Orleans and the surrounding area. Andrew Marsh, I hope you're ok, and that all of your friends are alright. I'm so sorry. All of the Jordanians I meet are incredibly upset about the whole disaster, as well. It really means a lot to me to hear them genuinely concerned about Americans.
Kayte-congrats on the MCATs, I'll try and send you a nice long personalized email soon!!
Joel-stay safe in Iraq! I'll be thinking about you...
Tracy-Thanks for the text a few days ago, I hope Chicago treats you well! Give Dan a hug for me.
Mom and dad-give all the cousins, Aunt Millie, and the grandparents and whoever else you see in MI hugs for me!!
Siebs-Your pics were great!
Everyone else--I'm sure I miss you!!! If I don't know you, thanks for reading my blog!! :)
