Sorry for the scare
I'm really doing fine. The rocks thrown at me were unusual for Safi, but it's quite common to happen to a PC volunteer at any point. Not that it happens all the time, but it happens. And it's usually just stupid little boys. I yell, "I'm telling your father!" and they get so scared of the thought of their fathers knowing they threw rocks at the American, they run off crying. It's awesome.
Anyways, I'll be fine. I'm not running away from Jordan just because of a few attacks. I made a commitment, and I'm gonna stick it out as long as I possibly can. But to those state-side, I'll be home in October '06 (tentatively) to see my big sister get married. Less than a year away!
I'm going to push my second project through at my center as soon as possible. My first project, English classes, went great with the kids. I still have lots of girls coming every week. But because of popular demand, I started an adult class, with women and men. The first class was set for Saturday, and not one person who signed up appeared at the center. Or even called. No one! AHHH! Frustrating!
So I'm going ahead with Project Two. This will be a tutoring program, kinda like a Big Sister program. I'm going to get older girls paired with younger girls and start them off with team and leadership building games, things they can do together, and get them started. Hopefully it will work, and prove to be sustainable. It's simple, I think, but just challenging enough that I'll have to work pretty hard to get the girls excited about it. Especially the older girls. They don't seem to want to do anything with me, except take me shopping, since my clothes aren't up to their standards. Ridiculous.
My ultimate goal is to keep kids in school, but I have no idea how to do that, so I'm hoping the tutoring program will help someone.
Arts and crafts would be fun, too, but my center has no money.
So, I'm feeling better about everything right now, knowing I'll see my fam in Cairo in a few weeks, I'll hopefully see Kayte in June, and oh-I'm turning 22 soon! I'm so young, it's almost embarrassing! Almost.
Love the emails...thanks again.
